Cannon partnered with Ravatt Albrecht & Associates to provide complete engineering and architectural, through construction for UCSB’s two-story, 216-room Anacapa Residence Hall. Originally built in 1954, Anacapa Hall was one of the three original residence halls on the UCSB campus. What started out as an effort to upgrade the existing fire alarm and sprinkler systems was expanded to include the upgrades of additional systems and elements to achieve a LEED® certification.
In the summer of 2013, crews stripped down the walls, knocked out the windows, and gutted the ceiling of the 60-year-old building. Improvements that contributed the facility’s “greening” included the installation of more efficient lighting, insulated windows, sustainably-made furniture, low-flow bathroom fixtures, upgraded heating and cooling systems, and low-voltage data/communications and cable wiring throughout the building. The project was completed in the fall of 2013 – in time for the return of UCSB’s students – with a total cost of close to $5 million. In the spring of 2014, Anacapa Hall achieved its LEED Gold for Commercial Interiors certification.
Cannon provided structural and civil engineering services. Structural engineering services included evaluation of notching/coring of existing framing members, evaluation of existing structural systems capacity, framing modifications, fire system seismic bracing connections, engineering to replace air handling units, specifications, bidding assistance, construction administration, and as-builts.
Civil engineering services included review of as-built plans, determination of fire water service point of connection and routing, design of the restrained 4” fire water line, backflow prevention, site repairs, specifications, bidding assistance, construction administration, and as-builts.Back to Market
