← Back to Lubrizol Hydrochloric Acid System

Overview

The existing FRP tanks at the Lubrizol Advanced Materials Inc. plant had reached the end of their recommended life, requiring the replacement of the plant’s hydrochloric acid scrubbing system. Lubrizol selected Cannon to provide engineering design, plans, and specifications for the new equipment. Cannon also calculated secondary containment and specified concrete coating for maximum protection. Using efficient engineering and planning, Cannon held downtime to a minimum. Cannon also established a well-defined communication strategy with the contractor in order to ensure compliance with the approved construction documents. This included consulting on a regular basis with Lubrizol representatives, requesting their input on items of work in order to minimize downtime.

Cannon provided laser scan modeling and facility as-built drawings including primary facility features such as major structural components of buildings; landings, walk-ways and hand rails; tanks piping, valves, pumps, motors, vents, electrical, panels, boxes, and meters. Electrical and controls engineering services included plans and specifications sufficient to obtain a permit and construct the electrical and controls portions of the hydrochloric acid recovery system. Cannon’s Structural Engineering team provided drawings and calculations sufficient to obtain a permit and construct the structural portions of the hydrochloric acid recovery system. The structural design included tank and equipment foundations, pipe supports, containment wall design, and relocation of existing supports in the areas. The design also included specifications for coatings. Our Construction Administration team provided construction support and oversight during construction of the hydrochloric acid recovery system.
