Overview

Cannon provided engineering, surveying, design analysis, and construction management for the 16-inch Thunderbird Waterline. Cannon developed three alignment alternatives for the waterline, providing constraints, feasibility, and cost analysis for each alignment. Cannon was also responsible for providing permitting services for the trenching/directional drilling across the Salinas River and preparation of construction documents for the project. The most significant challenge associated with this project was the crossing of the Salinas River. Permits were required and obtained from the Army Corp of Engineers, US Fish and Wildlife, California Department of Fish and Game, and the Regional Water Quality Control Board. The construction method used was Horizontal Directional Drilling for the 800-feet crossing of the river.
