Fuel Storage Terminals

← Back to Underground Storage Tank Removal Projects

Pursuant to EPA requirements for UST leak detection and monitoring, six underground fuel storage tanks were removed from the Plant 42 test facility outside of Edwards Air Force Base and replaced with aboveground tanks.  The removed tanks ranged in size from 1000 gallons to 30,000 gallons and were replaced with above ground tanks ranging from 1000 gallons to 50,000 gallons.  This process necessitated the redesign of an aviation fueling facility and replacement of an existing ground vehicle fleet fueling facility with an entirely new facility nearby.  The replacement facility designs included an initial process analysis and operational optimization, demolition and existing equipment removal, site preparation, aboveground fuel storage tanks, pumps, equipment foundations, piping, ancillary systems, fuel dispensers, interconnecting piping, shade canopies, specialized fuel system instrumentation and controls, PLC control, electrical equipment and supply, and site finishes.  The redesign incorporated many improvements in operations and maintenance access and ergonomics.  The design package included a detailed estimate of construction costs.

The installations were designed to meet the U. S. Department of Defense Whole Building Design Guide requirements.
