Imerys Filtration Minerals wanted to install a new flotation (frothing) unit and a supply tank (similar in application to the existing units) at its Lompoc plant. The first option was to install the proposed unit beneath the raised platform of the existing units. The second option for the flotation unit location was to create a new platform extending from the dewatering platform to the existing platform. Either option required creating new piping lines between the unit and the tank to upsize and reroute to accommodate the expansion, thus streamlining production.
Cannon was selected to provide engineering and design services for the location and piping of the flotation unit with the supply tank and tie-ins to associated systems. This included a 3D survey scan and modeling of the site, piping layout, new pipe supports, modification to existing pipe and supports, project management, and preparation of construction drawings.
The project was designed in three stages. The first stage focused on surveying and modeling the existing equipment and piping within the facility. The facility was modeled along with the flotation units and supply tank location options – of which the client decided the final location – for use in the construction drawing package. The second stage of the project focused on the new process piping, which connect the new flotation unit and supply tank, and included modeling the new piping and tie-in points and developing piping plans. The final stage focused on developing construction drawings to design and develop the piping system at the facility.Back to Service
