← Back to Northwest University Multi-Use Regional Detention Facility

As part of a master development plan, Cannon designed and prepared permit and construction documents for this regional storm runoff detention facility on the Northwest University Campus in Kirkland, Washington. Located within the historic “college green”, the facility was designed with large flat areas for playfields and usable lawn and green space. It was also shaped as an amphitheater to facilitate use for outdoor concerts and other performances. In addition to mitigating runoff from the college campus, the facility was sized to mitigate some significant downstream erosion problems that were identified by the City. A lower cell, planted with wetland species, controls the flows for the higher frequency/smaller storm events, as well as treating runoff. A larger area above, combines the storage volume for the larger storm events, with the multi-purpose outdoor amphitheater and playfields.
