← Back to Standby Generators Design

Cal American Water wanted to install standby backup emergency generators at four existing water resource facility sites in Duarte, Bradbury, and Los Angeles. Cannon was selected to provide electrical engineering, structural engineering, and permitting assistance with the local air pollution control district for each of the four sites: Las Lomas Well, Encanto Well, Scott Booster Pump Station, and Olympiad Booster Pump Station.

Cannon provided site recommendations and coordinated with the vendor for to size each proposed generator for adherence to applicable noise ordinances and fuel storage fire codes. Vendor coordination involved reviewing generator proposals and quotes so the client could purchase the generators directly from the vendor. Cannon also provided electrical calculations and designed conduit and wire distribution for use between the existing electrical equipment, new generators, new transfer switches, and existing SCADA panels. Structural engineering design involved calculating the generator and ATS foundations as well as providing drawings and specifications for concrete foundation designs related to the stationary generators and automatic transfer switches.
