Zodiac Aerospace requested Cannon’s services to provide PLC and HMI software programming and commissioning of software for a new thermal press. Cannon provided automation design, SCADA software development, and commissioning services for a retrofitted thermal press at Zodiac Aerospace’s Santa Maria facility.
The added thermal press allowed Zodiac to significantly increase production of aircraft seat shells using a variety of molds. This press required a major modification to convert from steam-heating to electric-heating, which required Cannon to upgrade the older PLC and HMI components in the existing panel. Cannon provided hardware design and software modification for conversion of the old PLC logic and hardware to a modern PLC platform.
In addition, Cannon added all new hardware and software programming (in a separate control panel) for the electric heating components, to include control and monitoring of 20 different temperature zones. Each zone had a respective heating rod and thermocouple. Cannon supported the hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical and automation aspects of the press commissioning, performed O&M training, and developed follow-up “recipes” for the SCADA software application.
