Local Meteorologist Flips Pancakes into Water Wells
PG&E’s John Lindsey joins forces with Cannon Corp. for annual fundraiser
Taking a break from his wet winter forecasts, Central Coast meteorologist and weather columnist John Lindsey will trade his radar for a spatula next Tuesday to help raise funds for water wells in developing nations.
The Well Worth It Campaign, launched by Cannon in 2010, will host a pancake breakfast fundraiser at its office Tuesday, February 14, with food by Popolo Catering.
While Lindsey has written much about our above-average rainfall this season, access to clean water remains an issue in many parts of the world. The Well Worth It campaign has
raised enough money to fund the construction of 19 wells worldwide. Those wells help eliminate water-related illnesses, which are a serious health issue in poor countries like Ethiopia.
For a $10 donation during the 4th Annual Pancake Breakfast, you can enjoy unlimited pancakes, eggs, sausage, OJ, and coffee (kids eat free with each paid adult!) from Popolo, a family-owned restaurant that has provided catering for 25 years. You won’t want to miss the special treat: chocolate chip pancakes!
WHAT: Pancake breakfast fundraiser
WHEN: Tuesday, February 14, 7 – 8:30 a.m.
WHERE: Cannon Corp., 1050 Southwood Drive, San Luis Obispo
WHY: To benefit Cannon’s Well Worth It Campaign
Since the inception of Well Worth It in 2010, Cannon has helped raised more than $100,000 to build seven wells and fund a drilling rig. The firm has partnered with the organization “charity: water” to help serve more than 1,500 people with safe, clean drinking water.
Clean water gives children in developing nations the opportunity to attend school and get an education. With education, communities are able to raise strong leaders, making it possible to break the cycle of poverty and allow future generations to improve their quality of life.
