Project Success: Morro Bay Transit Hub Ribbon Cutting
On June 28th, 2023, at 9:00a.m., The City of Morro Bay Public Works Department invited stakeholders, team members, and the public to a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the recently completed Transit Hub project. The Hub serves as a key connection point for the City’s local Morro Bay Transit service, Regional Transit Authority (RTA) interregional service, and San Luis Coastal Unified School District school bus service.
The project commenced in 2018 when the City developed a “Morro Bay Transit Hub Study” to review existing conditions, transit services, and evaluate potential site locations. The study produced recommendations for a new location within the City Park, a project program, conceptual plans, and a related list of improvements.
The project updated transit facilities, ADA improvements, and lighting, while providing sufficient space for Art in the Park, an outdoor exhibit that happens three weekends per year. It created a modern, safe, functional, and low maintenance transit shelter with sufficient seating both inside and outside of shelter. Future transit amenities such as transit ticketing, real time traveler display, and electric bus charging facilities were located on the plans for later installation phases.
The now completed transit hub is open and operational at 734 Harbor Street, Morro Bay. Cannon is excited to be part of the engineering design team that made this transit hub a reality. Congratulations and great work to everyone involved!
