College Drive & Boone Street Intersection Improvements
Increased traffic and continued growth in Santa Maria, along with increased enrollment at the nearby City College, impacted traffic flow at the College Drive and Boone Street intersection. This intersection was originally designed as a four-way intersection controlled by stop signs. Jones Street also intersected with Boone Street at a skewed angle just east of College Drive. To provide better traffic control at the intersection, the City prepared a traffic analysis. The decision from this analysis included installation of a traffic signal and realignment of Jones Street to intersect with Boone Street at a more perpendicular angle. Cannon provided civil engineering and surveying services for the improvements, including roadway realignments, roadway widening, new medians, ADA curb ramps, opinion of probable cost, and preparation of project specifications and special provisions. Surveying services included topographic survey, record data, right-of-way, and boundary surveys. The new signalization, striping and signage, and overall intersection improvements improved the traffic flow at this intersection.
