LAUSD Exterior Improvements

Cannon has provided civil engineering and surveying services to the Los Angeles Unified School District Operations and Maintenance Department for repaving, landscaping, and drainage improvements of several K-12 schools over the course of many years. Some of these projects include the following:

Central Region Elementary School: For this project, Cannon provided civil engineering; design; and survey services, including ALTA survey, topographic survey, lot line adjustment, and easements; off-site utility design and demolition; precise grading; water and sewer, storm drain, and erosion control; and street improvements. Cannon also designed an underground storage system to mitigate the stormwater quality and flow rate due to the proposed improvements.

Garfield High School: Cannon provided surveying and civil engineering services for the demolition of an existing building and the construction of a new administration building and auditorium at Garfield High School. Civil engineering services included providing sewer, water, and fire water design services for the new building. Stormwater management facilities were designed to meet site sustainability requirements and comply with City and State National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System requirements.

Humphreys Elementary School: Cannon provided civil engineering design and survey services to resurface the asphalt pavement playground areas at Humphreys Elementary School. The design included topographic survey, demolition, re-grading of poorly draining areas, paving, and surface seal plans.

Holmes Middle School: Cannon provided civil engineering design and survey services to resurface the inner buildings area at Holmes Middle School. As part of the project, Cannon provided plans and specifications to regrade areas of poor drainage and reconstruct planters adjacent to the new paving areas.

Ranchito Elementary School: Cannon provided civil engineering design and survey services to design landscape plans for the greening of Ranchito Elementary School as part of a K-Bond Project. The design included new layout, planting, and irrigation plans for student and teacher gatherings.

Rowen Elementary School: Cannon provided civil engineering design and survey services for resurfacing the Rowan Elementary School playground facilities. The design included topographic survey, demolition, re-grading of poorly draining areas, and paving and surface seal plans.

Nobel Middle School: For this project, Cannon provided civil engineering design and survey services to resurface the asphalt pavement parking areas, drive aisles, and playground areas. New design features included concrete swales to provide more efficient drainage, grading for handicapped access, and variable height curb and gutter to reduce impact on existing hardscape.

Verdugo High School: Cannon prepared plans for the reconstruction of a softball field. The project included demolition, grading, landscape, and electrical plans. The state-of-the-art softball field and facilities were built over an existing asphalt playground and required demolition of the old field. New design features included a fully equipped softball field, dugouts, and bullpens for the home and visiting teams; two batting cages; three water fountains; and a 24-foot-high fence to separate the softball field from the baseball field.

South Region Elementary School No. 11: Cannon was selected to provide civil engineering, off-site utility design, demolition, precise grading, water and sewer, storm drain, erosion control, and street improvements for the new elementary school, located on a 3.4-acre site. Cannon prepared the design for an on-site storage system to capture and retain stormwater on-site to meet water quality requirements. This storage system lessened impacts to the downstream stormwater system and, therefore, reduced the peak flow rate and stormwater volume through infiltration. Vermont Street improvements included street repaving, sidewalk widening, removal of street median islands, and required a B-permit through the City of Los Angeles.
