Sanitary Sewer Lift Station Evaluation and Assessment
Sanitary sewer lift station (SLS) No. 136, which discharges through a 7,900-foot, 6-inch force main to the City of Los Angeles, had experienced several breakdowns and electrical component malfunctions. The Port of Long Beach (POLB) wanted to upgrade the SLS by eliminating the risk of future spills and increasing the system’s reliability, resiliency, and operational capacity.
The POLB selected Cannon to complete a condition evaluation and assessment for each component of the SLS and provide alternatives to the proposed upgrade. The assessment focused on site civil; auxiliary equipment; and the hydraulic, structural, and electrical systems. As part of the assessment, we evaluated the sewage flows to the SLS and determined sizing of hydraulic components. The scope of work also included review of current standards for PLC panels and communication with SCADA system. We presented the three alternative solutions for improving the SLS in a technical memorandum for POLB.
