American Water SCADA Upgrades

In 2016, American Water Operations & Maintenance, Inc. assumed responsibility for the Vandenberg Space Force Base water system and wished to standardize normal operations and incorporate current industry best practices. Cannon provided the following services:

Capital Project Services: Cannon was selected to upgrade the existing SCADA system and install control systems at new sites to allow operations staff to monitor/operate the system in real-time from remote workstations. The scope of work included 14 water sites, two treatment facilities, and four lift stations. Cannon created and implemented a standardized PLC and HMI functionality across the water and wastewater facilities. Additionally, Cannon completed a telemetry assessment and radio path survey for each site. The telemetry assessment evaluated the following three alternatives for radio communication: existing UHF frequency, new 900MHz frequency, and cellular communication.

On-Call Services: Cannon provided on-going professional automation/SCADA services for American Water Operations & Maintenance, Inc. SCADA services were delivered through remote access or physical presence based on the network security and industry best practices for each task.

Design-Build Services: Design-build services for this project included design, fabrication and programming, factory acceptance testing, installation and commissioning, site acceptance testing, communication testing, operations training, and as-built drawings.
