Space Launch Complex Structural Upgrades

A prominent aerospace client sought structural upgrades to several of their launch complexes at Cape Canaveral in Florida. The facilities were originally acquired with buildings and structures in varying condition; some needing significant upgrades.

The client selected Cannon to provide structural engineering design services, which included modifications to the existing structures, a new launch table, equipment supports, pipe rack systems to support launch operations, water deluge systems, and supports for systems that lift the rocket into launch position. Access structures, such as stairs and guardrails around the facility, were also redesigned as part of the project.

The structural engineering services for the launch complex designs included calculations for forces associated with positioning the rocket, uplift forces associated with initial thrust loads prior to release of the rocket, and forces associated with exhaust blast loads during liftoff.
