Space Force Base Utility Mapping & Water Pressure Testing

Cannon provided topographic survey, construction staking, and utility mark-out services for the new Base Housing and Housing Renovations Phases of the Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB) West Housing Project, as well as the new 6,608 square foot Community Center.

The project covers an area of about 20 acres and consists of 502 homes to be demolished, 164 new units, and a total of 703 existing homes to be renovated. This project began with a six-year initial development period that included the design, construction, and/or renovation, as well as the overall management, maintenance, and operational responsibilities for an estimated 867 end-state housing units. The following amenities were included: a new pool, splash park, dog park, basketball courts, volleyball courts, track, football/baseball field, picnic areas, gazebo with grills, fitness center, sauna, locker rooms, multi-purpose room, and a new maintenance and self-help facility.

VSFB Military Housing Project Partnership worked with AFCEE for incorporating and testing sustainability concepts, including: use of recycled-content materials; conserving energy and water; limiting air emissions from construction and operation activities; preserving and restoring the site’s natural resources; and identification of building materials and products that meet agreed upon recycled-content goals.

During the initial design phase, Cannon’s survey crews provided detailed topographic field survey of the project area, which included locating all surface and underground utilities such as gas, water, sewer, storm drain, storm drain grate inlets and outfalls; electrical pull boxes and transformer pads; street lights; and telephone and cable TV lines and risers. Utility information included pipe invert elevations at all manhole land cleanout locations.  Utility features were located using GPS, which was based on horizontal and vertical control referenced to VSFB’s Geodetic Control Network. Cannon provided layout staking and utility mark-out services during construction.
