Cannon’s Fourth Annual Summer Barbeque Charity Event a Savory Success

08/14/2014

Cannon’s Well Worth It campaign was initiated in 2010 as a response to the critical need for clean water solutions in communities within Africa, South Asia, and other developing regions. In partnership with charity: water, Cannon holds several events throughout the year to raise funds for clean water projects. Among these, the Well Worth It Drive-Thru BBQ hosted each summer at the San Luis Obispo office location is the campaign’s largest event. This year’s event raised $7,000, ensuring access to clean water for more than 300 people.

Well Worth It volunteers grilled up more than 1,000 pounds of tri-tip, served 70 gallons of chorizo beans, sliced 175 loaves of buttery sourdough bread, and packed 300 fresh garden salads to feed more than 1,100 people. In total, 293 cars passed through Cannon’s San Luis parking lot, with 25 meals being donated to local families in need.

Money raised from events like the Drive-Thru BBQ are used to construct sustainable water wells in countries where women and children spend an estimated 40 billion hours every year walking to gather water for their families.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to this year’s BBQ; it is truly inspiring to see the continued generosity of our supporters and the achievements made when we pull together.
