A Central California Refinery had historically used local well water for their refinery processes. In an effort to improve the quality of refinery boiler feedwater, a Reverse Osmosis facility was the recommended solution. Cannon was retained to provide the engineering design and construction administration services for this grass roots project. Cannon prepared plans and specifications for grading, foundations, structural steel, electrical systems, instrumentation, piping, and equipment layout. The final reverse osmosis process incorporated an ionics filtration system and involved the interconnection of the system with a variety of refinery processes. When complete, the system facility had a 400 gpm design capacity. Cannon was involved in all aspects of the project beginning with the conceptual design, PFD and P&ID development, site layout, HAZOP analysis, off plot interconnection of process fluids, and electrical and controls. Cannon was also responsible for the detailed design of the project through the development of the construction bid packages and bid evaluation. During construction, Cannon provided on-site engineering support as well as integration of the facility into the refinery operations.
