Landscape Architects Network’s recent article, Award-Winning 21st Street Turns Roadway Into “Green and Complete Street” reviewed the innovation and expertise implemented by the project team to transform this City of Paso Robles corridor into a beautiful and balanced multi-modal community space. From conceptual plans to construction oversight, Cannon’s collaborative efforts with the SvR Design Team, Central Coast Low Impact Development Initiative, the City of Paso Robles, and most importantly, its community members converted a frequently flooded urban street to an ecofriendly, aesthetically appealing, universal-use thoroughfare.

The Green Innovation Award of 2014 praised Cannon and team’s green infrastructure strategies, such as preservation of native fauna, incorporating drought tolerant landscape designs, management of stormwater run-off and recharge of groundwater, protection of bio-retention areas, and installation of recycled and sustainable street features. The true triumph of this celebrated project; however, is the City of Paso Robles’ confidence in the local expertise of Cannon, and Cannon’s dedication to facilitating community awareness, involvement, and partnership in a landscape architectural delight that will serve and inspire beyond its pervious pavers.
