Cannon Celebrates 50 Years of Providing Reliable Responsive Solutions

Established in 1976 with a team of five, Cannon marks 50 years of delivering Reliable Responsive Solutions through a disciplined focus on people, platforms, systems, and culture.

Founded in San Luis Obispo, Cannon was built on the belief that enduring firms invest internally as much as externally—creating the foundation necessary to adapt, grow, and consistently deliver for clients over time. That approach continues to guide the firm today.

Over five decades, Cannon has grown into one of the largest multidisciplinary engineering firms to originate on California’s Central Coast, expanding from its San Luis Obispo headquarters to additional offices in Irvine, Los Angeles, Ventura, and Seattle, Washington.

Today, Cannon’s multidisciplinary team includes civil, mechanical, electrical, and structural engineers; land surveyors; instrumentation and controls specialists; construction managers and inspectors; funding administrators; LEED-accredited professionals; and GIS specialists. The firm serves a broad range of markets, including aerospace & defense, transportation, water resources, public infrastructure, higher education, land development, and energy & industrial.

Throughout the last five decades, the firm has remained focused on building systems that amplify talent and allow each generation to build on the work of those before them. That long-term approach has helped Cannon remain agile through changing markets, evolving technologies, and industry disruption.

“Our Values and Cannon’s Canons were established early and continue to guide how we work, adapt, and grow,” said Founder Mike Cannon. “Reliable Responsive Solutions don’t happen by chance—they are the result of deliberate choices made consistently over time.”

Cannon’s commitment to strengthening communities extends beyond engineering services. Through its Well Worth It Campaign and partnership with charity: water, the firm has raised more than $220,000 to support clean water initiatives worldwide. Cannon also actively supports professional and community organizations, including Cal Poly’s engineering program, the American Public Works Association, and the Home Builders Association.

As we look ahead, we remain focused on strengthening our organization, supporting our people, and continuing to deliver Reliable Responsive Solutions—better than others, profitably, and responsibly.
